Happy July needlepointing planned for Denver chapter

IMG_1015-1

July brings our celebrated holiday of freedom and independence!  Happy Fourth of July to Denver’s stitchers of needlepoint from the Colorado Columbine Chapter of the American Needlepoint Guild.

This month, with our Kirk & Bradley Floral Heart Flags underway, we will convene on July 17 (downstairs this time) to meet with the year’s instructors of each needlepoint class.  Any questions, problem stitching areas, finer points needing to be discussed will have expert attention all evening.  Let’s get those projects off to the finishers!

Again, many thanks to our wonderful team of program directors, Madonna and Julie:

Denver’s fastest growing needlepoint group, the Colorado Columbine Chapter of the American Needlepoint Guild, will hold its June meeting on the 20th.

A class on how to stitch a strawberry scissors fob is planned.  The design uses beautiful threads in hot pink and bright green: Kreinik Silk Mori and Silk Serica.

Our July, 2016 meeting will be open stitching and finishing a Kurdy Biggs piece many members began in our recent workshop.

Beautiful stitch projects on tap for Denver needlepointers

The Colorado Columbine Chapter of American Needlepoint Guild has a full calendar of spring needlepoint projects from which to choose. Choose one or choose all!  There are chapter projects and pilot classes (where teachers try out new designs on volunteer stitchers) and even a party on tap!

Marcia G. with a Terry Dryden piece. Marcia G. with a Terry Dryden piece.

Our very special member of long standing, Marcia G., has a birthday coming up and we would like to celebrate it with her.  Our February meeting, on TUESDAY, the 16th (a change from our usual day of the week) will be a party in her honor. Marcia is an extraordinary stitcher, prolific, schooled and talented and we are going to be treated to an exhibit of her most fun projects.  What an honor to have such a busy stitcher with us!

Here, she shows a finished Terry Dryden piece, ‘Mediterranean Squares,’ at the last meeting, which Marcia  says she enjoyed stitching.

Also coming up in February, the nominating committee will present a slate of potential officers and take further nominations from the floor to fill jobs coming open in the spring: President, 1st Vice President (Programs) and Secretary.  Volunteers are always welcome and indeed, absolutely necessary to the functioning of the chapter, so hands up if you can assist!

Sign ups began in January for the Crazy Quilt Egg design by Rainbow Gallery.  The last chance to get in on this is the February 16 meeting, so sign up by then for this class project which will be taught in Fellowship Hall at Bethany Lutheran on March 21.

Wintry ‘Snow Crystal Tree’ class continues in October for Denver’s fast-growing needlepoint group

GloriaMeeting

Metro Denver’s fastest-growing needlepoint group, the Colorado Columbine Chapter of the American Needlepoint Guild, meets again on October 19 to resume stitching on ‘Snow Crystal Tree,’ a beautiful wintry design from Nancy’s Needle.  In the photo above, President Gloria M. leads a brief business meeting before the start of class in September.

Stitchers, how far have you progressed on this beautiful project?

It is a counted-thread design with several sparkly and metallic threads used.

Snow Crystal Tree

When finished, it makes a snowy winter scene which can be enjoyed all season, no matter the holiday.

Snow Crystal Tree

Here is our upcoming schedule:

OCTOBER 19: Last touches of ‘Snow Crystal Tree’ will be added — think beads and sparkles! This piece is a wonderful winter design, so it can be enjoyed all season.

NOVEMBER 16: It’s our tradition to enjoy a holiday gathering, so expect an enjoyable social event with your stitching friends, old and new!

DECEMBER: No meetings, but there may be a field trip or two in the works. Watch this space!

A wintry needlepoint ‘Snow Crystal Tree’ sparkles in September’s Colorado Columbine ANG class

Snow Crystal Tree

Denver’s fastest growing chapter of the American Needlepoint Guild swings back into action after a sweet summer of stitching at home. The Colorado Columbine Chapter, based in Denver, has a whole new slate of programs getting underway.

SEPTEMBER 21: A delightful design, all sparkly and wintery, is planned for CCC-ANG. See the piece, above, called ‘Snow Crystal Tree’ by Nancy’s Needle, which will be taught by Barb G.

Cost is only $15 for directions and beads (!) and signups are closed, so the early birds are the lucky ones this time.

Design size is 8.3″ x 8.3″ on a 14″x14″ canvas. It will be a fast stitch. The design shines as a winter piece, not necessarily holiday themed.

June needlepoint stitching project is a Mile High favorite

Mile High Santa by Libby Sturdy Mile High Santa by Libby Sturdy

Our June project for Denver needlepoint stitchers is the Mile High Santa designed by Libby Sturdy! He is ready for individual interpretation, as the stitch guide provided can be tweaked by changing out threads or making Santa into a Colorado hiker or skier.

Our own Gloria M. is at the head of the classroom this month offering some fresh ideas to make this class a hit with students.

All students have received a line drawing of the Santa. Here are some instructions from teacher Gloria:

  • Your class assignment is to print off the line drawing, and color him in.  Live it up, do several, making changes as you like.  This will give you a great deal of familiarity with the piece before we start stitching.
  • Also note, the little Christmas tree on the left side is not on the line drawing.  It is  stitched in on top of the background, slightly behind Santa.  I added some beads to my tree, if I were doing this today, I would add a lot more glitz, and jazz it up more.
  • Canvas is 10″x14″, so bring same size stretcher bars (preassembled please), and your tacks to class.
  • You need your other stitching tools for our June meeting.
  • You don’t need to go shopping for threads for the 1st night.
  • I will furnish threads for the 1st night-
  • Between our June meeting and July meeting,  after you have your canvas, you can get the rest of your threads.
  • Also, we will go thru the list of threads, and I will tell you “you need a yard of this for that area”.  We will also talk about thread options for various areas, depending on what you like to stitch with, or what you may have in your stash.

Ready? Doors open at 6:30 and the class is full, so come on time to get a good seat.

March needlepoint action at Colorado Columbine ANG in Denver

Variations Sampler! Variations Sampler!

In addition to resuming work on the beautiful Variations Sampler above, our needlepoint project for March is a cuff bracelet designed by Orna Willis, called ‘Carolina’.  We all know what that means: color, color, COLOR! And beads, beads, beads!

Here are the specs:

The deadline for members to sign-up is past, but if you are still interested, call or e-mail Barb G. by Monday, March 9 to be added to the list.

Cost is $15.00 for the stitch guide. The list of materials needed was given at the February meeting. Cost of materials varies as stash threads are certainly usable!

The size of the cuff is approximately 3 1/2″ by 6 1/2″ finished on 18 count canvas.  You will need a piece of canvas  10″x8″.  If your wrist measurement is more than 6 1/2″ allow for another inch or two of  canvas.

The sewn beaded embellishments that are added after the stitching is complete. You do not have to be a beading expert to do this!

So join us on March 16! (This date has been corrected since original posting)

A sampler and a Santa are new needlepoint projects in 2015

Mile High Santa! Mile High Santa!

Can you believe we will be offering this adorable D-E-N-V-E-R Santa Claus as a class in June?  The Mile High Santa  is designed by Libby Sturdy and comes with a stitch guide!  It’s not too late to sign up — be at the February meeting on Tuesday, the 17th to get your name on the list.  Barb will tell you how much he costs.  As always, it is possible to use threads you already own to complete this design.  Which, by the waaayyy, is waaaayyy more beautiful than any photo can show.

This month’s class is the start of the year-long project, Variations Sampler by Custom House Needle Arts.  The correct stitch books will be available at the meeting.  The Gumnut threads that are used in the original sampler are available through Christine Hause of The Stitching Shop.  You can download the picture of the sampler, thread list, schematic of the blocks HERE.  Or, just enjoy the luscious colors you can be using by viewing the sampler here:
