July needlepoint events! Next meeting is July 15

Our next meeting is Monday, July 15 at 6:50 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church. Some lucky stitchers will be working ‘Holiday Patches’ by needlepoint designer Susan T. Kerndt. Payment for the kit was due by June 28. Bring a friend and a newly finished piece of needlepoint for Show and Tell. It’s a highlight of our gathering and inspires all of us who love needlepoint!

FIELD TRIP! On Saturday, July 20, any stitchers interested can join us needlework enthusiasts as we tour the textile exhibit at the Denver Art Museum. It’s called, ‘SPUN: Adventures in Textiles’ and you can read more here. “The museum’s newly opened and renovated textile art galleries and its inaugural show Cover Story are at the heart of this event.” Cost is modest, and the show promises to be spectacular. Join friends for a day out on the town! Everyone’s welcome.

Our June meeting offered a great review of interesting websites related to needlepoint. Program chairman Barb G. had handouts listing organizations, thread companies, sites showing needlepoint stitches and techniques, designers’ sites and more. Stitchers with tablets can download several fabulous guides to stitches, great for looking up a tricky stitch while on the road.

Remember, we are lucky to have wonderful retailers right here in Colorado, so be sure to stop in your favorite shops and see what’s new this summer. They work very hard to bring us a selection of beautiful needlepoint canvases and threads, so look them up right here!

Our president, Lea K., has introduced us to two new shops for framing needlepoint. If you are a new customer to either, you may not know that both shops are offering our members discounts. One is the Colorado Frame Company of 2396 W. Main St., Littleton, and another is frame it, 6905 S. Broadway in Littleton (near the Creative Needle, one of our advertisers). In May, the owner of frame it, Nancy Hallowell, spoke to our group about new framing ideas, glass improvements and finishing ideas. You can take a virtual tour of her shop here.
